Job Description

 

Clinical Responsibilities:

 

· In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed the post holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

 

·Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referral from other health care workers within the organisation

 

·Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

 

·Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

 

·Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients an in line with current practice disease management protocols

 

·Providing counselling and health education

 

·Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate

 

·Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

 

· Collecting data for audit purposes

 

·Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand written prescriptions whenever possible)

 

·Prescribing in accordance with South Worcestershire CCG prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

 

· Participate in student clinical learning and development

 

· Participating in research and recruit patients to clinical trials

 

· Using new technology as part of routine consultations

 

In general, the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working in primary care.

·Manage and assess risk within the areas of responsibility, ensuring adequate measures are in place to protect staff and patients

 

· Monitor work areas and practices to ensure they are safe and free from hazards and conform to health, safety and security legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines

 

Health and Safety:

 

·Take reasonable care of health and safety at work for you, your team, patients and other visitors

 

·Co-operate with your employers to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements

 

·Actively identify, report and correct Health and Safety hazards and infections hazards immediately when recognised

 

·Follow all practice health and safety policies and to become familiar with the practice Risk Assessment

 

Utilising Information:

 

·Use technology as an aid to management in planning, implementation and monitoring, presenting and communicating information

 

·Review and process data using accurate clinical codes to ensure easy retrieval for monitoring and audit purposes

 

· Understand the responsibility of self and others regarding GDPR

 

·Collate, analyse and present clinical data and information to the team to enhance care

 

Confidentiality:

 

·Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data

Infection Control:

 

·Maintain an awareness of national standards of infection control and cleanliness and guidelines

 

·Be responsible for the correct and safe management of the specimens process including collection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers, storage and transport arrangements

·Safe management of sharps procedures including, use, storage and disposal

 

·Use appropriate infection control procedures, maintain works areas in a tidy, clean and sterile and safe way, free from hazards

 

·Undertake periodic infection control training

 

·Waste management including collection, handling, segregation, container management, storage and collection

 

Learning and Development:

 

·Participate in the GP Appraisal Scheme

 

·Act as mentor to students, assessing competence against set standards as requested and if appropriately qualified

 

·Disseminate learning and information to other team members in order to share good practice and inform others about current and future developments

 

·Assess your own learning needs and undertake learning as appropriate

 

·Make effective use of learning opportunities within and outside the workplace, evaluating their effectiveness and feeding back relevant information

 

·Provide an educational role to patients, carers, families and colleagues in an environment that facilitates learning

Qualifications

 

·         Qualified General Practitioner

 

Registration

·         GMC Registration

·         Registered on National Medical Performers List

·         Membership of a recognised Medical Defence organisation (for non-state backed provisions)

·         Evidence of continuing professional and personal development, GP Appraisal, Revalidation Certificate (when appropriate)

 

 

Knowledge / Skills

·         An understanding of patient centred approaches to care

·         Competence in management of patient list with good Time Management being able to prioritise and work under pressure

·         Management of clinical paperwork for patients

·         Good organisational skills

 

·         Experience of local CCG initiatives & Policies

·         Knowledge of national and local policies e.g. Primary Care Commissioning, QoF

·         Experience of EMIS Clinical System

 

Qualities / Attributes

·         Friendly and approachable manner / good people skills

·         Excellent communication skills with patients and colleagues

·         Self-motivated and reliable

 

 

Other

·         Car driver / full and clean licence

·         Eligibility to practice in the UK independently

·         English language proficiency
