JOB OVERVIEW

This is an exciting new role to oversee the delivery of primary care education for the extended primary care team, working closely with a range of educators.

The GP Multi-Professional Educator will work with the Head of Service in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the Health Education England mandate for Training Hubs. Focusing on improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience & ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future.

We are looking for GPs with a passion for education and quality improvement. Additional support will be offered via the Primary Care School and GP Deanery to support professional development of the General Practitioner Multi-Professional Educator with peer support from the TDPs.

 

Main duties of the job

With the changing face of Primary Care and the expansion of the workforce, in particular the ARRS roles, the requirement for professional development, support, supervision and mentorship is an ever-increasing pressure on GPs and senior colleagues. The General Practitioner Multi-Professional Educator role is aligned to the TDP role descriptors but expanded to cover other professional roles. This will deliver an integrated workforce comprising individuals from a variety of professional and other backgrounds.

The placement strategy currently being developed aims to promote place-based training and development within the PCNs. This role will be pivotal in supporting the delivery of this strategy

Key relationships will include educators working in the training hub to develop shared learning opportunities and cross professional working. Close working with the deanery, HEIs and existing TDPs and educators external to the training hub will be required in order to achieve systemwide development

Additional support will be offered via the Primary Care School and GP Deanery to support professional development of the General Practitioner Multi-Professional Educator with peer support from the TDPs including potential to attend TDP development sessions and conferences.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

 The main responsibilities are set out below:

 • Working closely with Hereford and Worcester TPDs but with a multidisciplinary remit

 • To provide effective clinical leadership, contributing to the strategic development of the Training Hub. 

 • To contribute to the vision of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Primary Care Providers and to enhance patient care by providing leadership and direction with respect to the quality of education and training.  

 • To work on behalf of the Training Hub, providing expert advice on specialty-specific matters. 

 • To liaise and build relationships with educators across Primary Care employed both within and externally to the Training Hub for example the ACP educator, PA Ambassador, Pharmacy Ambassador internal to the Training Hub and GP trainers and GPN trainers external to the Training Hub. 

 • To work locally with key groups and stakeholders, to attend and host events across Herefordshire and Worcestershire primary Care Providers, to develop key liaisons and to ensure effective local engagement and responsiveness in line with the culture of HEE.  

 • To review how multi-professional healthcare teams interact and identify opportunities for different healthcare professions to work more effectively together through education and training. 

 • To work with providers and others to support and capture innovation locally and ensure national and local conversations develop ‘best practice’. 

 • To support delivery of the specialty-specific aspects of any Training Hub, through local initiatives and programs in particular those mandated by HEE or NHSE/I.

 • Involvement in Programs and Projects  

 • Collate and action/escalate any specialty-specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns. 

 • Support the Head of services with recruitment to training posts and programs.

• To use and support development of the Training Hub educational resources to support learners across Herefordshire and Worcestershire Primary Care to fulfil their full potential. 

 • To attend Training Hub meetings within the structure and other relevant meetings. 

 • To meet Code of Practice requirements, ensuring that information is available to the Head of Service to meet HEE/NHSE/I deadlines, and to support information sharing to track exceptions. 

 • To facilitate career management or be able to provide access to career management skills or provision. 

 • To emphasise the importance and promote the development of a quality learning environment for all learners. 

 • Ensure any training provision/interventions meet Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality Improvement standards

 • To support the development of quality processes which are complementary across the healthcare workforce. 

 • To support the use of clinical skills training and simulation (where appropriate/ applicable), stressing the importance of teamwork and human factors. 

 • Support Professional Development of the educational provision of the Training Hub

 • To support compliance with requirements particularly with regard to the supervision and support for trainees and learners. 

 • To support trainers with the identification of learning needs and support provision of educational appraisal, educator development and resources within Primary Care. 

 • To create and promote shared learning opportunities to increase effective inter-professional working across Primary Care in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. 

 • To ensure local intelligence processes inform quality management processes. 

 • To engage with information systems (trainee database, post establishments) as required. 

 • To support the Head of Service with Strategic Workforce Development and Commissioning

 • To develop educational programmes where needed to support achievement of curriculum competencies. This includes for example facilitation of  MDT place based learning for GP trainees. 

 • To support the implementation of alternative workforce solutions within the Primary Care setting such as the ARRS roles. 

 

Additional requirements:  

 • Ensure that departmental standards of practice are maintained at all times and contribute in a positive manner to the overall development of the communications and engagement team. 

 • The post holder will be required to travel to many other locations, and other organisations, as required, this can be done using own vehicle or public transport.  

 • This post is one of continual development.  

 • Awareness of legal and regulatory requirements relating to specific projects.

To carry any other appropriate duties as required.

 COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

• To attend mandatory training and fire lectures regularly and assist with fire policy/evacuation procedure when necessary via internal training or transferrable NHS passport training evidence.

 • To keep up to date with and attend training on revisions to information systems or changes in protocols for the inputting of data in the light of Local and national initiatives.  To adhere to agreed protocols at all times. 

 • To participate in Individual Performance Review and Personal Development plans on an annual basis and to undertake training and development as identified within these discussions and as indicated by the requirements of the post.

 

CLINICAL GOVERNANCE AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

• To realise the importance of confidentiality when dealing with patients and staff, particularly when giving or receiving information over the telephone in accordance with the Data Protection Act. 

• Maintain the high standards of the service by contributing towards individual, team and service objectives and acting at all times in the best interest of patients.

 • To accurately collect, collate and input data to Information Systems as required by procedures to ensure that patient database records are up to date and accurate. 

 • To participate in Individual Performance Review and Personal Development plans on an annual basis and to undertake training and development as identified within these discussions and as indicated by the requirements of the post.

• Post-holders must maintain high standards of quality in corporate and clinical record keeping ensuring information is always recorded accurately and kept up to date.  The post-holder must only access information, whether paper, electronic or in other media, which is authorised to them as part of their duties.

• All Information obtained or held during the post-holder’s period of employment that relates to the business of the company and its service users and employees will remain the property of the Taurus Healthcare.  Information may be subject to disclosure under legislation at the Company’s discretion and in line with national rules on exemption.

• Any breach of confidentiality or computer misuse could lead to disciplinary action, and in serious cases could result in dismissal.  Breaches after the post-holder’s employment has ended could result in the Company taking legal action against them.
