Dear All,

Sorry it has been a busy month. Hope all is well with you. Did any of you attend the Best Practice conference at the NEC? I enjoyed it as much as last year and strongly recommend it next year. You can do all your manadtory training including cpr and update on asthma, COPD, diabetes, CHD, childhood imms, travel as well. 

Are any of you attending the PCDS conference on Thursday November 22 at National Conference Centre, Birmingham? I am going to drive if anyone fancies a lift. 

The next PN/HCA meeting focusing will be on Wednesday 5th December 6.30pm to 9pm with light refreshments from 6pm in the Russett room at HCCG. Professor Vinod Patel, Consultant in diabetes and endocrinology  from Warwick Medical School and Jonathan Thomas are presenting. It should be a really good diabetes update so do come and encourage GPs and others from the practice too.

Conor at Taurus feels we should all be accesing GP TeamNet regularly.  TeamNet hosts a wealth of information for all Nurses  including newsletters, up-to-date guidelines, training courses and much more. It is a great way to get information directly to you!

Cytology Updates

The NHS Cervical Screening Programme has launched a n e-learning resource for cervical sample taker 3 yearly update training requirements as set out in the NHSCSP guidance for the training of cervical sample takers. Immunisation training and updates

For immunisation enquires or incidents e-mail the West Midlands Immunisation Service:

  1. For a cold chain incident where vaccines have been stored outside the recommended 2-8oC temperature range-than those vaccines should be isolated (quarantined), clearly labelled and kept in cold chain conditions. Do not administer any quarantined vaccine until you have had confirmation to do so.
  2. For post-exposure prophylaxis or potential transmission of a vaccine preventable disease (e.g pregnant women exposed to measles) then telephone the Health Protection Unit on: 0344 2253560
  3. Accessing PGDS  You have to have a log in for NHS networks then search for West Midlands Screening and Immunisation and then ‘apply to join’. Once you have applied to join the Screening and Immunisation Team will receive an email and will be able to accept your membership. Once you are able to access the West Midlands Screening and Immunisation Network page, the PDGs can be found by clicking on ‘Immunisation’ in the left hand menu and then ‘PGDs’. Recent revised PGDs that have been sent out  for the seasonal influenza vaccination programme, Infanrix Hexa and DTaP/IPV/Hib.
