Child Immunisation Update

Timings: 9.30am - 4pm (registration from 9am)

Who is the study day suitable for?

The day is a valuable refresher for nurses experienced in childhood immunisations. This update provides consolidation of prior learning and extension of knowledge.

Why should I attend?

Much has changed in the theory and practice of vaccinating children. This interactive event conforms to Public Health England immunisation update requirements which are recommended annually for any vaccinator.

By attending this day you will be able to:

  • Identify the aims of the UK national immunisation programme
  • Describe how vaccines work
  • Discuss current issues in childhood immunisation (uptake, new vaccines, diseases, services, resources, myths)
  • Describe the diseases, and the vaccine schedule designed to prevent them
  • Manage individuals with an uncertain vaccination status
  • Answer parental FAQs and gain informed consent, or act appropriately when it is withheld
  • Check your vaccination technique (choice of site, needle, preparation, administration and aftercare)
  • Manage your service: increasing uptake, vaccine supply, cold chain, record-keeping, data surveillance, staying safe and legal
  • Recognise and manage contra-indications, precautions, side effects and adverse events
