This talk will demystify  two specialized tests in diabetes management: the diabetes autoantibodies currently in clinical use and C-peptide levels. It will focus on the clinical situations when these tests should be requested and how to interpret the results. It will also introduce the audience to the application of diabetes autoantibodies in prevention of T1DM.

Learning objectives:

Attending this session will enable participants to:

• Be aware of the 4 diabetes auto-antibodies in clinical use
• Know which antibodies to request based on age, presentation and treatment history of patients
• Know how and when to request diabetes antibodies and C-peptide levels
• Gain practical insight into interpretation of results
• Learn role and use of diabetes antibodies in prevention of T1DM

Name: Dr Ayesha Khalil, MBBS, MSc, SCE, FRCP

Locum Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Alexandra Hospital, Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust.

18 y experience in clinical management of diabetes with a keen interest in diabetes education and evidence-based medicine.  Granted Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, London in 2017 for work on improving diabetes care and diabetes education and training in a non-profit setting in South Asia.

GMC approved post-graduate teacher and trainer in Clinical Medicine.
