Diabetes Footcare training course for HCA Winter 2021/2022

The Podiatry departments in Herefordshire and Worcestershire are offering a Diabetes foot care Education and Training Package to support  HCA within both counties who are performing Annual Diabetic foot screening

The course will entail

• Theoretical and practical training for those involved in Diabetic foot surveillance and routine annual checks (registered and non-registered staff groups as appropriate).
• Use of virtual learning opportunities and face to face experiential learning within working environment.
• Provision of skills to empower self-management of appropriate conditions and foot care.
• Promotion of podiatry pathways and confidence to refer/ escalate concerns via appropriate referral route
• Delivery supported by DUK utilising professional and patient resources

The programme will consist of an initial 1-hour presentation via by Training Hub's Online Learning Management System (LMS)

Following the training staff should be able to

1. Describe what Diabetes is and how it effects the foot
2. Describe common side effects of Diabetes
3. Perform a visual check of the foot and identify any abnormalities
4. Perform an Ipswich touch test
5. Palpate pulses
6. Refer at risk foot to appropriate services

The course is open to HCA in Primary care and in Carehomes

County & Dates & Time  Notes - The "Venue"  on the right when you book and in your booking/reminder emails will have either  Herefordshire or Worcestershire in the brackets to tell you which county the session is for.
