 Lead Practice Nurse Forum - Face to Face Event

Esther, our Lead Practice Nurse at the Training Hub, would like to invite all Lead Practice Nurses, PCN Lead Nurses, Nurse Managers and Infection Prevention Lead Nurses working within General Practice to attend our face to face forum, which is taking place on the 26th of June from 08:45 - 13:00 at Castlemorton Parish Hall, Church Road, Castlemorton, Malvern, WR13 6BE - https://castlemortonparishhall.org.uk/.

This is a fully funded morning, with refreshments included.

Join us for the launch of the Lead Nurse Forum—an opportunity for Lead Nurses working in General Practice across Herefordshire and Worcestershire to come together. 

These sessions will also have a strong educational focus, alongside providing a supportive space to: 

  • Connect with peers in similar roles  
  • Share ideas and best practice  
  • Discuss current challenges  
  • Build a strong professional network  

The forum offers an opportunity to gain fresh perspectives, explore practical solutions, and engage with colleagues who understand the demands of your role. 

At this first forum, sessions will focus on team dynamics, wellbeing, and the role and responsibilities of the Lead IPC Nurse within practices, with content directly relevant to CQC inspections. There will also be opportunities to discuss current topical issues in small groups and contribute to the planning of future meetings.

Navigating Team Dynamics Session:

  • To identify what is good ‘Team dynamics’ and why does it matter so much?
  • To identify and differentiate between different personality types
  • To recognise the strengths and contributions of each of the personality types
  • To build confidence in developing effective strategies for effective team collaboration

Speaker for the session: Dr Steph Manton MBChB DCH DFSRH DRCOG MRCGP PGCert MedEd a GP Multi-Professional Educator for Herefordshire & Worcestershire Training Hub.

Dr Manton has been a GP in Worcestershire since 2009.  Having completed her medical degree and GP training in Manchester and the North West, she relocated back to her home county with her GP husband.  She currently works part-time in a busy Worcester City practice and spends the other half of her week working as a GP Mentor and as a GP Multi-Professional Educator for the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Training Hub.  She has particular interests in Menopause Care, Paediatrics and Medical Education. She lives in rural Worcestershire with her husband and two children.  In her spare time, she can be found enjoying the great outdoors.

The role and responsibilities of IPC Lead in General Practice:

The purpose of this session is to provide a reset and reframing of the role of a Primary Care IPC Lead. We will explore what the role should look like, and how you can effectively evidence compliance with the Health and Social Care Act: Code of Practice on the Prevention and Control of Infections. 

Speaker for the session - Melody Gaudin

Melody Gaudin is an RGN with over 15 years’ specialist experience in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), beginning her career in orthopaedic theatres before moving into acutesector audit and surveillance. She has since worked across acute, community, and commissioning settings, developing expertise in assurance, outbreak response, improvement methodology, and systemwide governance. Her commissioningbased IPC roles within CCGs and later ICBs have strengthened her ability to lead collaborative improvement across diverse care environments. Amid ongoing organisational shifts, Melody remains committed to strengthening IPC standards, supporting partners, and driving sustainable improvement across healthcare systems.

Speaker for the session - Esther Taylor

Esther Taylor, Lead Practice Nurse at the Training Hub, has worked in primary care for over 25 years, including 13 years as a Practice Nurse and more than five years as Lead Nurse at Cantilupe Surgery in Herefordshire. Esther is a Non-Medical Prescriber with a particular interest in diabetes, heart failure, and hypertension. She is passionate about championing all aspects of practice nursing. In her current role, she supports education and workforce development in primary care. 

Wellbeing Session:

  • Understand burnout and compassionate leadership.
  • Promote and practice steps to improve mental health.
  • Sign post yourself and others to help.

Speaker for the session: Dr Olwen Wright BSc MB ChB MRCP MRCGP Multi-Professional Educator for Herefordshire and Worcestershire Training Hub. 

Olwen worked as a medical registrar and in ITU before GP Training and has an interest in medical complexity and diabetes. She has worked as a GP Partner at Spring Gardens in Worcester for 23 years and been a GP Trainer for 21 years. She completed the Triumvirate leadership programme in 2015 to set up her practice ACP service and supervises staff training for their MSc.
