Paediatric Asthma Update for Practice Nurses

We’re delighted to welcome Laura Rush from LR Respiratory Training & Consultancy to deliver our Paediatric Asthma Update.

Laura is an experienced Respiratory Nurse Specialist and Educator with over 16 years’ experience across clinical practice, respiratory education and service development. She continues to work clinically in primary care, ensuring her teaching is practical, evidence-based and relevant to everyday practice.

Laura also sits on the Primary Care Respiratory Society (PCRS) Education Committee and has extensive experience supporting ICBs, PCNs and Training Hubs across the UK.

Laura has also been involved in respiratory pathway development, including the development of a children and young people’s asthma pathway.

This session provides a practical update on the assessment and management of asthma and wheeze in children, helping clinicians apply current guidance confidently in practice.

This webinar will cover:

• A refresher: overview of paediatric asthma and epidemiology

• The latest guidance on diagnosing asthma in children

• What makes an asthma diagnosis more likely?

• What about the under 5s?

• Wheeze in early childhood: episodic viral wheeze and multiple trigger wheeze

• The latest guidance on treating asthma in children

• Pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of asthma

• Overview of current guidelines

• Choosing an inhaler device and supporting good inhaler technique

• Recognising and managing acute exacerbations

• Action plans and supported self-management
