The Pathophysiology of Obesity - Tuesday 9th of June from 13:00 - 14:00

  • Define obesity and identify the genetic, environmental and biological factors contributing to its development.
  • Describe the altered pathology that occurs as obesity progresses and the impact on health and wellbeing.
  • Explain the biological mechanisms involved in the homeostasis of body weight and how they hinder behavioural weight management interventions.

Understanding Weight Bias and Stigma - Tuesday 16th of June from 13:00 - 14:00

  • To understand what weight bias and stigma is
  • Explore the impact weight bias and stigma have on a person living with obesity and the care they receive
  • Discuss the importance of conversation and language to address weight bias and stigma

Nutritional Considerations for Incretin Therapies - Tuesday 23rd of June from 13:00 - 14:00

  • Identify malnutrition risk factors and basic nutrition guidelines for patients prescribed incretin therapies
  • Understand the impact of dietary intake and physical activity on body composition during treatment with incretin therapy 
  • Evaluate the importance of nutrient-dense diets alongside incretin therapies
  • Discuss common nutrition concerns associated with using incretin therapies to manage metabolic disease

Speaker for the sessions:

James O’Connell (BSC, PG Dip) is a registered dietitian who currently serves as an Obesity Medical Education Associate at Eli Lilly. He has over 14 years of experience as an advanced dietitian with the Tier 3 weight management service at University Hospital Aintree, where he continues his clinical practice under the supervision of Professor John Wilding. James has made significant contributions to obesity research through participation in multiple projects at both local and international levels. He is dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes for individuals living with obesity and is committed to providing ongoing support and guidance in this field.
