Main duties of the job

The GP will undertake a variety of duties governed by the GMS contract and objectives of Enhanced services, including:

  • In person consultations
  • Telephone consultations
  • Online consultations
  • Triage calls
  • On call duties
  • Checking and signing repeat prescriptions

You will be working in a new purpose built surgery with great facilities and a consistently Good CQC rating, within easy commuting distance of Birmingham and Worcester.

We are a forward thinking progressive practice with a long history of training Medical Students, GPs and Nurses.We are heavily involved with our PCN which comprises 4 practices and the majority of the ARRS staff.

As a result of the supportive culture within the practice we have a very low staff turnover.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
  • Cover all the clinical management of the patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or to other providers as appropriate
  • Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols as well wider guidance such as that from NICE
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Check, read and interpret pathological results for patients
  • Ensure appropriate follow up of patients
  • Record clear and contemporaneous computerised consultation notes to agreed standards
  • Ensure that practice clinical database is updated promptly and accurately with information relating to patient records, as required for clinical accuracy and for practice recording requirements under QOF and enhanced services.
  • Appropriate use of read codes.
  • Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions avoiding hand-written prescriptions.
  • Prescribe appropriately and in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary, NICE guidance and Good Prescribing Practice (as defined by British National Formulary guidance)
  • Work with and provide support for other members of the primary health care team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • The applicant must be a qualified GP with full GMC registration licence to practice, on a performers list and have a UK drivers licence Newly qualified GP (no more than 2 years qualified) with no previous substantive post
  • This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Desirable

  • Understanding of policy developments related to the delivery of primary care services including General Practice, the GMS contract, Clinical Governance, Network Contract DES, and Quality & Outcomes Framework Knowledge of the health needs of the surgery population Eligibility for minor surgery, CHS, obstetrics, family planning accreditation

Experience

Essential

  • Experience with using EMIS
  • Experience of NHS general practice
  • Experience of using electronic clinical patient records
  • Experience of medicines management
  • Experience of CCG initiatives
  • Experience of QOF and clinical audit
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
