Job Purpose
The Bank Locum GP will provide safe, effective and patient-centred clinical care across a range of primary care, urgent care and community healthcare settings. The post holder will assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with a wide variety of health conditions, working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
The role offers flexibility and the opportunity to work across multiple services, supporting the delivery of high-quality healthcare whilst maintaining the highest standards of professional practice, clinical governance and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Assess, diagnose and manage patients presenting with acute, chronic and complex health conditions.
- Provide face-to-face, telephone and virtual consultations as required by the service.
- Develop and implement appropriate treatment and management plans.
- Prescribe medication safely and effectively in line with national guidelines and best practice.
- Request, interpret and act upon investigations and diagnostic tests.
- Refer patients appropriately to secondary care, community services and other healthcare professionals.
- Recognise deteriorating patients and ensure timely escalation and referral when necessary.
- Provide clear advice, health promotion support and safety-netting to patients and carers.
- Participate in effective clinical handovers to ensure continuity of care.
Clinical Governance
- Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive patient records using electronic clinical systems.
- Adhere to all relevant clinical policies, procedures and evidence-based guidelines.
- Participate in audit, quality improvement initiatives and service development activities.
- Report incidents, complaints and near misses in accordance with organisational procedures.
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of patient safety and clinical effectiveness.
Team Working
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, administrative staff and external healthcare providers.
- Develop effective working relationships with colleagues and partner organisations.
- Support a positive and inclusive working environment that promotes teamwork and respect.
Safeguarding and Compliance
- Maintain awareness of safeguarding responsibilities relating to children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are identified, documented and escalated appropriately.
- Adhere to organisational policies relating to confidentiality, information governance, health and safety and infection prevention and control.
- Comply with GDPR and all relevant professional and regulatory requirements.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain full registration and licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC).
- Remain on the NHS Performers List.
- Maintain appropriate medical indemnity cover.
- Keep professional knowledge and skills up to date through continuing professional development (CPD).
- Participate in mandatory and statutory training requirements.
- Practice in accordance with GMC Good Medical Practice standards.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Inclusion on the NHS Performers List.
Experience
- Experience working as a General Practitioner within primary care or urgent care services.
- Experience of autonomous clinical decision-making.
- Experience using electronic patient record systems.
Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a varied and demanding workload.
- Sound understanding of clinical governance and patient safety principles.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience within urgent treatment centres, out-of-hours services or community-based services.
- Additional specialist interests or qualifications.
- Experience working in a flexible or locum capacity.
Pre-Employment Requirements
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Hold valid GMC registration and licence to practise.
- Be included on the NHS Performers List.
- Provide evidence of professional indemnity insurance.
- Undergo an Enhanced DBS Check with Adult and Child Barred List checks.
- Provide satisfactory employment references.
- Provide proof of right to work in the UK.
- Complete occupational health clearance and all mandatory pre-employment checks.
