We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly skilled Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join our friendly, forward thinking general practice team. This is an exciting opportunity to work autonomously within a supportive multidisciplinary environment, delivering high quality, patient centred care to our population.

You will use your advanced clinical skills to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients presenting with a wide range of acute, chronic, and complex conditions. The role includes independent prescribing, clinical decision making, and contributing to service development within the practice.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an experienced clinician acting within their professional boundaries. They will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for our practice population, from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care.They will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.

Job responsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the ANP. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients
  • Manage acute presentations, long term conditions, and urgent on the day demand
  • Undertake clinical examinations, investigations, and interpret results to support clinical decisions.
  • Prescribe medications independently in line with current legislation and clinical guidelines
  • Provide health promotion, disease prevention, and patient education
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, pharmacists, HCAs, and the wider PCN team.
  • Contribute to QOF, enhanced services, and practice quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records using EMIS
  • Participate in clinical meetings, audits, and governance activities

Secondary Responsiblities 

In addition to these primary responsibilities, the ANP may also be required to:

  • Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care
  • Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation
  • Develop an area of specialist interest, taking the lead within the organisation
  • Continually review clinical practices, responding to national policies and initiatives where appropriate
  • Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e., root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Drive the development of nursing services within the organisation, liaising with external agencies and professional organisations as required
  • Develop practice administrative and clinical protocols in line with the needs of the patient and current legislation
